Final transnational meeting held in Ankara, Turkey

The final transnational meeting of the project “girls go STEM” was organized on August, 23 on Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. Final details for the implementation of the project and the preparation of the report have been agreed.

Short term joint staff training event

From July 10 to 14 University of Rijeka hosted the partners at project at Short term joint staff training event: Integrating gender perspectives in teaching. This initiative is designed to empower young girls to delve into the world of STEM and realize their full potential.

“STEM Café Stories mentor meet up and discussion” organized by the Union of researchers of Macedonia

On 19th of December 2023 in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia the event “STEM Café Stories mentor meet up and discussion“ as a part of the Work package 3 of the Erasmus plus project “Girls go STEM” was held. The venue of the event was MPT coffee place, SUGS Georgi Dimitrov, Varsavska bb, Skopje. The main aim of this event was to make an actual STEM café stories with two role models, a successful female in STEM. As a role models we have prof. Biljana Jolevska Tuneska, a matematician, and prof. Teuta Jusufi Zenku, also a matematician. The event was an engaging, enlightening, and informal talk in which the role models present their current research. An informal discussion with the present girls and young women followed, in a relaxed atmosphere over a drink (coffee, tea, refreshments).

As part of the activity STEM Café stories promotion printed materials had been distributed to the following secondary schools linked to the University of Zagreb: IV gymnasium Zagreb, Josip Slavenski Gymnasium Čakovec, Secondary school Dugo Selo, X gymnasium Zagreb.

Conference “Women in STEM”

The “Women in STEM” conference was held at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, on November 2 and 3. Every partner organization had at least 4 participants, presenting their experiences within the project, making suggestion for new initiatives or solutions to pursue more girls to STEM.

“STEM cafe stories” events at University of Zagreb

“STEM Café Stories” events were held at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology. Event on October 17 was an informal talk in which is presented STEAM-related topics. In a relaxed atmosphere over a drink (coffee, refreshments, chocolate) an informal discussion with the present girls was also held.
On October 18, mentors associate professor, PhD. Marina Svetec Miklenić and full professor PhD. Ksenija Durgo, introduced the Laboratory for Biology and Microbial Genetics to first-year undergraduate girl students and helped them gain first-hand experience with a certain technology, tool or system.

A one-day visit of female high school students the Faculty of Engineering, University of Rijeka.

On this occasion, the students visited three laboratories at the Faculty, the Laboratory for Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Turbomachinery, the Laboratory for Machine Dynamics, and the Innovative Materials Structures Modeling Laboratory. Eleven mentors, female STEM experts, from the University participated in STEM cafe stories event. The event was attended by 26 3rd and 4th grade students from the Andrija Mohorovičić High School from Rijeka.

Pilot training workshop at SEEU

A pilot training workshop from July 1st to July 3rd, 2023, involving high school students from two schools in Tetovo: Gymnasium “Kiril Pejcinovik” and High Economic School “8 September.” The workshop attracted a total of 40 female students who participated in a two-day training program. Three SEEU Alumni students: Alejna Alia, Dona Alampioska, and Elona Dika, were selected as mentors for this event. They were chosen based on their exceptional achievements in computer science and successful careers in renowned global companies. Their primary role in the Girls Go STEM project was to inspire and motivate the participants to pursue careers in STEM fields. Additionally, they provided assistance and guidance to the attendees throughout the two-day training session.

Pilot testing phase at SIM
The pilot testing phase for SIM was implemented with the students from the MIG gymnasium in Skopje, North Macedonia in May and June 2023.

A one-day visit to the FFTB by students of Bjelovar Gymnasium

Materials created for the project (leaflets) were distributed to students from Bjelovar Gymnasium. They were also given practical experience in researching simple STEM topics in some laboratories.

Successful transnational meeting held in Tetovo, N. Macedonia

The transnational project meeting was taking place at the Max van der Stoel Institute, South East European University (SEEU) at March, 31,2023. This meeting was bringing together project partners from different countries to discuss progress, exchange ideas, and plan future activities aimed at empowering girls to pursue careers in STEM.

Successful kick-off meeting held in Zagreb, Croatia

On October 3, the GISTEM project team met in Croatia on Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology (Zagreb), and held the kick-off meeting. Productive meeting was held and set guidelines for further project activities in the coming months.
